
Alexander Girard
Alexander Girard (1907–1993) was an American designer and architect known for his work across interior, furniture, textile and industrial design. From 1952 to 1975, he collaborated closely with Herman Miller, contributing significantly to the brand’s design legacy. Alongside contemporaries like George Nelson and Charles and Ray Eames, Girard is regarded as a leading figure in mid-century American design. Among his most celebrated projects are the vibrant interior of New York’s La Fonda del Sol restaurant and the Girard Foundation in San Diego, which showcases his remarkable and extensive folk art collection.
